Need for Human Authorities- Yay or Nay?
Romans 13:1 says, “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God” (NLT). Ultimately, every authority is from God but He chooses to delegate that authority through different channels such as:
What's Brewing Under?
We had two different guests come over to the house to visit, and upon their departure, they realized their cars were stuck in the snow. After several attempts to drive out of the snow to no avail, they reached out to us for help. We finally pulled out their car using a towing rope connected to another car. Finally, they were out !!! You may be wondering what transpired that caused them to get stuck ?
The Stone Has Been Rolled Away
They absolutely had no idea as to what was going to happen to this massive stone which had been placed over the door leading into the tomb. Despite the uncertainty of what to do with the stone, they kept walking!
God's Love Languages- Part 4: Gifts
It’s that time of the year where shopping is in full gear! Gifts are being bought and presents are being wrapped, all while enjoying carols that are being sung. Behind it all, we must not forget that the reason for the season is Christ. God displayed the depth of His love for the world by giving His only begotten son for us; with the aim that we will not perish but instead have everlasting life, as we build and fortify our relationship with Him.
God's Love Languages- Part 3: Quality Time
Time! Time! Time! This is one commodity we tend to say we don’t have enough of; but the truth of the matter is, we create time for the things that we value the most. It has been said by my mentor that there are
God's Love Languages- Part 2: Acts of Service
Love is such a powerful virtue; the story of Jacob and Rachel gives us a glimpse into this attribute. In Genesis 29, Jacob was lovestruck when he set his eyes on Rachel at the well. He was ready to work 7 years for Rachel’s father Laban, in order to have her as his wife. I love what Genesis 29:20 says ….
God's Love Languages- Part 1: Words of Affirmation
Can you remember the last time you got a captivating text from someone you love? Possibly a spouse, someone you were in a relationship with or a friend, and in that text they expressed how they love you and the reasons behind it. Remember how you were smiling uncontrollably, with others not knowing why you randomly started smiling. Days after days, that text replayed in your mind and every time you thought about it, you could not help but smile. That’s the same feeling God has when we….
The Magic Eraser
I had rented an apartment for a few years and prior to moving out, someone had advised me to try the “magic eraser”. The magic eraser is truly a wonder that can remove most stains from walls & surfaces, including those tough stains caused by me placing my head on the wall while sitting down. I was a student at the time and definitely wanted my damage deposit back, so i bought it. I had imagined it would have had several complicated steps in order to get rid of the stains. But to my amazement…
Are You A Careful Listener?
Here are some practical steps to put in place as we strive towards being careful listeners:
1. Get rid of distractions: This could be getting a quiet place where you can be alone in God’s presence, placing your phones and other devices on airplane mode, silenced or completed turned off.
Move Forward
Opportunities are sometimes like an automatic sliding door that only opens when you get close to it. In 2 Kings 6, here is a story of how a great famine came to Samaria due to the besiegement of the Syrian army. The situation was so terrible that people starting boiling up their children to eat.
Love Keeps No Record of Being Wronged
Regardless of the atmosphere Joseph grew up in, he did not allow that to contaminate who he was. He displayed the complete opposite of what the world would expect such a person to be – angry, bitter and filled with so much rage!
The End of a Battle is the Beginning of Another
During a Sunday sermon, Pastor E (Pastor Emmanuel Adewusi), as I like to refer to him, was making reference to the story of Jesus being tempted by the devil in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights. Wow, He was just baptized by John and the heavens were opened, with the Holy Spirit descending upon Him as a dove (Matthew 3:16). Not only that, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). Wow, what an amazing day that would have been for Jesus Christ. Not long after that, the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil (Matthew 4).
Prayerlessness is a Sign of Pride
2 Chronicles 7:14 says “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
This was the scripture that the Holy Spirit ministered to me as I joined in a prayer session during a sermon I was watching. I had heard it said by anointed ministers that prayerlessness was a sign of pride but this day, I was illuminated with understanding. A few things to take from this verse:
Come Rain, Come Shine, I'm Eating This Supper!
I was cooking jollof rice and suddenly remembered the dispute about which is better, Nigerian jollof rice or Ghanian jollof rice lol. I believe Nigerian jollof rice is better but hey, I might be a little biased lol. While thinking about this, I recalled an incidence which all started with a gift card my husband and I received to a few select restaurants.
Hidden Treasures
I was searching for our juice dispenser, which I had kept in storage, and as you can imagine, there were loads of boxes to open before getting to the box containing the dispenser. But while searching through the boxes, I came across a condiment bottle I had totally forgotten I had tucked away in one of the boxes, which I needed some prior months. While laughing at the whole situation, I was reminded it’s the same way we may have hidden treasures that we need to dig out.
Timely Wisdom
I have heard “Wisdom” defined as the correct application of knowledge, which I absolutely agree with. However, I would love to slightly modify this definition with a time and knowledge factor. I define “Wisdom” as the correct application of the right knowledge at the right time.
Need A Helping Hand?
Happy New Year!!!
I’m pretty excited about this New Year because it has been themed, “The Year of Overflow”- Psalms 23:5. As we prepared towards the New Year, expecting overflow in every area of life, the Holy Spirit reminded me of something that happened while grocery shopping, that I will like to share today.
At The Nick Of Time
During our family devotion, we began to read about an interesting story from John 8:1-11. It was a story of a woman that was caught in the act of adultery and the Pharisees conveniently used her as their guinea pig to trap or should I say, try to put Jesus in a very and I mean, very tight spot. I can just imagine them planning behind the scenes and discussing amongst themselves on how to trap Jesus in his words and one of them might have stood up and said, ‘‘Guys, why are we stressing ourselves, you all know Lady A that sleeps around with married men. I found out from the gossips in town that she would be meeting married man B at Hotel C.
The Language of Faith
I had never done this before but it was the job I was assigned to do. Hey, it was a nice sunny day and I would have the opportunity to meet lots of unknown people and get to speak with them for few seconds… maybe 60 seconds if they gave me an audience.
