Need A Helping Hand?
Happy New Year!!!
I’m pretty excited about this New Year because it has been themed, “The Year of Overflow”- Psalms 23:5. As we prepared towards the New Year, expecting overflow in every area of life, the Holy Spirit reminded me of something that happened while grocery shopping, that I will like to share with you today.
I had decided to quickly stop by at the grocery store to pick up a particular item. It was supposedly meant to be a quick stop, so didn’t think I needed a big shopping cart, hence went for a small shopping basket. As I got into the store, I remembered there were a few more items that I was going to need and in no time, my small shopping basket was full. At this point in time, it felt sooo heavy as I carried the basket on one of my hands. As I approached the checkout lane, I started contemplating if to just go to the front of the store and pick up a big shopping cart or possibly drop off some items and buy them on a different day. As I went back and forth with this decision in my mind, I decided I was going to stick to the items I already picked out and painfully carry the items once it’s time.
As I placed the items in different carry-on bags and left the store, I realized it did not feel heavy any longer and I was wondering why the sudden difference. As I kept thinking about it, I realized that it was because I was no longer carrying the items on one hand (while using the shopping basket) but instead, using both hands, thereby distributing the weight for ease.
As I reflected on this event, I was reminded of how He wants to lighten the burden we may be carrying in life. Sometimes, we are so focused on getting the “To-Do” and the “To-Be” lists checked, that we ignore “The Helper”, the Holy Spirit, who is ever ready to give us a helping hand in fulfilling our life’s mission and purpose.
“I WILL ASK THE FATHER, AND HE WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER HELPER, THAT HE MAY BE WITH YOU FOREVER”- JOHN 14:16
As we start this New Year and write out all our plans for this year, let us be reminded that we don’t have to carry this burden alone (not negating our own responsibilities). We have an AMAZING helper, the Holy Spirit who is ever ready to extend a helping hand as we embark on our life’s mission.
PSALMS 55:22 - “CAST YOUR BURDEN ON THE LORD, AND HE SHALL SUSTAIN YOU; HE SHALL NEVER PERMIT THE RIGHTEOUS TO BE MOVED.”
If you don’t have Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you cannot take advantage of the Holy Spirit, who is our ever-present help in the time of need. (Ps 46:1). He is soooo excited to help you in your life’s journey but you need to first give Him access into your heart by opening the door to Jesus Christ. If you will like to make this decision today, please repeat this prayer:
“Lord Jesus Christ, I believe you are the Son of God and I believe You died for me on the cross of Calvary. I know I am a sinner and today, I come to You to forgive me of all my sins and to make me a brand new creation. I accept You as my personal Lord and Saviour. Thank you Lord for forgiving me and making me born again, in Jesus name, Amen”.
Congratulations!!!! You are now born-again. It simply means you are like a new born baby in Christ and because of YOU, there is loads of celebration in heaven!
