The Law of Reflection

I was planning a work conference prior to the pandemic and I intended to bring along a speaker for one of the workshops. As I went through her biography, I was stunned but not surprised when I realized she had trained under a highly renowned and knowledgeable speaker we have had the privilege of having for previous conferences. Even though her resume and biography spoke volumes of the speaker I intended bringing but knowing she was a mentee of this other renowned speaker sealed the deal for me. As I pondered on this occurrence with a smile, the Holy Spirit reminded me of The Law of Reflection

The Law of Reflection simply refers to how children are a  mirror of their parents. This is not only applicable to biological children but includes spiritual, adopted, or acquired (e.g mentees in other areas such as career etc) children. Naturally, children without doing anything will reflect their parents in their looks, their mannerisms, their height, their complexion, their health, their personality, their behaviour etc. As such, it was no surprise to me when I saw the achievements of the speaker I intended to have for the conference because she reflected her career-parent aka mentor. Children are a reflection of their parents and hence, they reflect what/how you think, what/how you speak, what you do and who you are. The gift to reflect our own kind was given from the beginning of creation when God said in Genesis 1:26-28 NKJV,

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

We as humans are made in the image and likeness of God and one of the likenesses of God is the ability to birth. Hence, every human has the ability to birth or create. We see this in Genesis 1:28 where it states “Then God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth”. We are further reminded that as He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). I want to take this opportunity to pray for every woman trusting God for the fruit of the womb- Because you are made in the image and likeness of God Almighty who has the ability to birth and create life, so, therefore, you as well will give birth to your own children in Jesus name amen.

Whatever a man thinks in his heart would eventually manifest itself in words and finally get actualized in reality. We see this in Luke 6:45 and Proverbs 23:7.

“ A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good, and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:45 NKJV)

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you.” (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV)

The devil does not have the authority to create life but he depends on humans to destroy their lives through the words of their mouth. “Death and life are in the power of the tongues and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21 NKJV). In the beginning, in the garden of Eden when man had power and authority, the devil did not have authority and power and hence why he needed to deceive Eve to disobey God’s command in order to take over the power and authority over this world that was initially given to them (Adam and Eve). This is the reason why the devil is called the god of this world but thank God for restoration and redemption we have through the second Adam, which is Jesus Christ. Jesus’s death on the cross and resurrection made Him claim back that power and authority from the devil as referenced in Matthew 28:18 “ Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority (all power of absolute rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” (Matthew 28:18 Amplified). Since we are joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17), we as believers have access to the same power and authority that was claimed back from the devil. Hence, whatever you think of your children, whatever you say about or to your children will manifest itself in the lives of your children because of your power to create/ birth. As parents, we need to be careful what we say when our spirit is stirred, whether when we’re happy or angry, as whatever we say will eventually happen.  It is no wonder that Isaac asked Esau to prepare him a meal so that his spirit would be stirred up with joy and he will bless him. You will notice that when he declared the blessing over Jacob (due to the deception) and Esau asked him to bless him regardless, he could not take back that blessing from Jacob. There is great power in our tongues and children reflect the world we created through our words. Decide to create a beautiful future for them by declaring words of life and peace into their lives and you will see them reflect those words. If there is anything you don't want to be reflected in the lives of your children, be diligent not to utter those words about them.

What You Do and Who You Are

Have you come across some kids that want to take a pose just like their dad or mum? The same thing happens with what you do and who you are. Children reflect and mirror who you are (your personality, your values, your attitude, your temperament etc) and what you do (your conduct, actions, behaviour). Someone once said, “you look like what you look at”. We see this reflected in what Jacob did with the strong livestock when he made sure they mated in front of the rod, which was of green poplar, almond and chestnut tree and he peeled the white stripes in the rods, to ensure the white portion was exposed (making it seem like they were spotted rods). Whenever the non-spotted livestock looked at the rods as they mated, they gave birth to spotted and speckled offsprings. (Genesis 34-43).

As parents, if there is anything you don't want reflecting in the lives of your children, now is the time to start working on those, so it does not reflect in your children’s lives. If there are traits, temperaments, attitudes, behaviours or costly mistakes you don't want reflecting in your children, now is the time to war against such by dealing with such in your own life. On the other hand, for children who are of age or have an understanding of this concept, if there are traits in your parents you do not want reflecting in your life, this is the time to pray against such traits, behaviours, words, and prevent it from being reflected in your life. Jabez’s mother called him a son of sorrow because of the pain she had at his birth and when he realized it started having an effect on his life, he cried out to God and asked God to bless him and enlarge his territory, that he may not cause pain and God answered his prayers.

“9 Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.” (1 Chronicles 4:9-10 NKJV)

Whether you’re a parent or a child or both, the good news is that God has the ability to reverse anything that may have been sown in words, deeds or thought that may be negatively affecting your life or the lives of your children. The bible says that whatsoever is bound on earth, will be bound in heaven and whatever is loosed on earth will be loosened in heaven (Matthew 18:18), so such wrong seeds can be uprooted and cancelled. You don't have to be doomed for life. I pray today in the name of Jesus Christ, that anything that may have been sown through words, deeds, thoughts or any means and is yet to or already having a negative effect in your life or that of your children, by the precious blood of Jesus Christ, those seeds are uprooted today and any fruits of those wrong seeds are destroyed in Jesus name amen. I declare that the goodness of God will begin to be reflected in your life and that of your children in Jesus’ name amen.

The power to reverse anything that shouldn’t be reflected in a person’s life or their children is only available in Jesus Christ. To access such power and authority, you need to give your heart to Jesus Christ and make Him your Lord and saviour. If you will like to make the decision today, please say this prayer with me:

“Lord Jesus Christ, I believe you are the Son of God and I believe You died for me on the cross of Calvary. I know I am a sinner and today, I come to You to forgive me for all my sins and to make me a brand new creation. I accept You as my personal Lord and Saviour. Thank you, Lord, for forgiving me and making me born again, in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Congratulations!!!! You are now born-again! This means you share the same DNA as Jesus Christ and because of you, there is a great celebration in heaven right now!

If you made this decision, I would love to hear from you today! Please leave a comment on this post or reach out to me at https://www.cccghq.org/contact-us
